Position Title: Sr. Project Engineer
Department: Project Engineering
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Location: US or CAN

 

Position Summary

The Sr. Project Engineer is part of a cross-functional team focused on executing battery storage projects using market-leading technologies. The Sr. Project Engineer oversees all engineering activities of one or two storage projects from the design phase through commissioning, ensuring successful execution. The role involves over 25% time spent at project sites.

 

Responsibilities

 

Engineering Support:

  • Develop technical specifications, vendor reviews, and supplier qualifications, including testing and commissioning aspects.
  • Support procurement activities by managing supplier information, generating technical requirements, and maintaining Q&A logs.
  • Review technical aspects of EPC bidder proposals during selection.
  • Review project documents and designs, identifying gaps to ensure project success.
  • Provide technical input for tender proposals.

 

Project Execution (On-Site):

  • Oversee technical project execution, managing scope, stakeholders, and schedules.
  • Interface with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure consistent communication.
  • Manage engineering consultants and host coordination/design review meetings.
  • Review and coordinate design information from suppliers and contractors.
  • Manage design review processes and ensure timely resolution of comments.
  • Review Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures and reports.
  • Inspect construction work and assist in resolving technical issues.
  • Recommend improvements to product design or processes.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Share project-specific lessons learned for value engineering and process improvement efforts.
  • Manage relationships with EPC contractors and key stakeholders.

 

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary projects (electrical, civil, structural, mechanical) is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in project/systems engineering.
  • Experience in battery storage systems, medium voltage stations, and related products is a plus.
  • General knowledge of balance-of-plant systems, including UPS, fire alarms, air-conditioning, and SCADA.
  • Knowledge of grid connection requirements for renewable generation and energy storage (e.g., G99, G100).
  • Proficiency in LV/MV Electrical Installation design, cable sizing, short circuit/load flow analysis, protective device coordination, and Arc Flash.
  • Experience with procurement and technical bid analysis of major equipment such as inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Proficient in project management and document control procedures (e.g., RFIs, Change Orders, NCRs, O&M manuals).
  • Strong time management skills, able to prioritize multiple projects and objectives.
